Spring brings brighter mornings, lighter nights and milder weather. It's the perfect time to start planning your next weekend walk, but when the weather can be temperamental, what do you wear? We've created this guide in order to help you be as prepared as possible for your Spring hikes.
Spring Hiking Outfits
The first port of call is to check the weather on the days upto the walk. Of course it can always change last minute, but this gives you a good base of what to wear and what to take with you in your rucksack.
Layering is key in transitional periods like Spring. Base layers are essential, as this first layer helps to regulate your body temperature and wick away any sweat from the skin's surface.
The second layer would be your fleece or mid layer. This lightweight layer can be worn under a jacket for extra warmth and protection from the elements if you need it. If the sun makes an appearance, then you can strip your outer layer off and carry on the hike in just your fleece.
Your final layer is your outer waterproof jacket or coat. Again, weather depending, you may not need this but we all know what British weather is like and it's better to be safe than sorry. Your waterproof hiking jacket is your first layer of protection to any wind and rain you might encounter. When you're looking for a walking jacket, look for features like a hood, taped seams and water repellent zips.
Our Mountain Series Lite Jacket is ideal from Spring walks. It has everything you need in a waterproof jacket, just in a less structured and thinner material. It's been created using our ARED 20/30 fabric, which has incredibly high standards of waterproofing and breathability. The taped seams and water repellent finish helps to provide full protection. The hood is a packaway hood that comes with adjusters, and the elasticated cuff and hem are another layer of protection against the elements. Air vents have been added into the side seam that can be used for extra ventilation and the articulated sleeves means you have unrestricted movement.
For bottoms, you have a few options. You have walking trousers, shorts, zip off trousers or walking leggings for women. So again, what you choose to wear can depend on external factors including the weather, the hiking route, the length of the hike and more.
Whatever style of walking pants or shorts you decide to wear, there are some key features that your walking pants need to have. That includes being made using a stretch, water resistant material so you have freedom of movement and protection from the elements. Multiple zipped pockets to carry any essentials and articulated joints for unrestricted movement. Our Mountain Series Trousers also come with a UV50+ protection finish that offers full sun security.
To finish off your walking outfit, you need a good pair of walking shoes and suitable walking socks. Comfort is key when it comes to hiking!
