Ever wondered what it would be like to be at a Red Bull event? Well when Red Bull said they wanted to host a ski based event, we knew we had to be there!
What is Red Bull Hotlines?
170 competitors were invited to Fellhorn, Oberstdorf this Feb to take park in the Red Bull Hotlines event. One single specially made mogul was carved out into a single narrow track. This track was created to test the skiing and maneuverability of those competing. The winner is the person who completes the run the fastest. It doesn't sound like much but tell that to the competitors who unfortunately didn't finish.
The entire course was around 120 meters in length, with two parallel straight hotlines (that have a 13% gradient), there is then a set of rhythm busting gates before a second hotline section.
This is truly a test of skill and speed. To keep the energy pumped, there was also a crowd of around 7,000 spectators throughout the day to cheer the skiers on.
All the competitors were told to dress to impress as they were all being judged on their outfit choices. There was 4 judges there who were looking for the more eye catching outfit, they were marking on both creativity and design. The winner, Vitus Huber, was dressed in an old school ski outfit, accompanied by the original 1930s wooden skis. Vitus even went down the hotlines on those OG skis!
