What To Pack For Your Kids First School Ski Trip

You've booked your kids on to their very first school ski trip, and if you've never been skiing yourself, it can seem like a minefield making sure that they've packed everything they need.

But not to worry, that's where we come in! Here at Dare 2b, we eat, sleep and breathe ski and we have put together a comprehensive list of everything that will need to be packed into their ski bag.

School Ski Trip Essentials

Making sure your kids are comfortable, dry, warm and cosy is key to creating an enjoyable time on the slopes. Here are our ski trip essentials.

  • Ski Jackets
  • Ski jackets are created with higher levels of waterproofing and breathability than standard jackets to help protect them from the snow and wind. Our ski jackets also come with the standard features of a snow skirt and ski pass pocket.

  • Base Layers
  • Base layers are worn as the first layer on the body. They're made with fabrics that have quick wicking and drying properties, which helps pull the sweat away from the skin. Our base layers also come with an anti-bacterial odour control treatment for all day freshness.

  • Mid Layers/Fleece
  • The mid layer (or fleece) is layered over the base layer. This is the layer that helps to regulate body temperature, it's made with a stretch fabric that doesn't restrict any movements on the slopes, and come in either a quarter zip, half zip or full zip design.

  • Ski Trousers
  • Ski trousers are waterproof, breathable pants that have been specifically created to wear on the slopes. They come with adjustable (or removable) brace, taped seams for complete waterproof protection and snow gaitors to help stop any snow getting up through the ankles.

  • Ski Socks
  • Ski socks are different from normal socks that you wear every day. Ski socks are constructed using a thermal knit which adds warmth and protection. The flat toe seam is there for comfortable and can help prevent any rubbing in the snow boot.

  • Snow Boots
  • This style of boots have been specifically created to be worn on the slopes. Snow boots are typically at the very least water repellant. They have a fleece lining, and a winter tread that helps to prevent any slipping on the snow or unsteady ground.

  • Ski Mittens/Gloves
  • Both ski mittens and gloves both have the same features. They're both waterproof, come with a insulated lining and have adjustable cuffs for a comfortable fit. It's personal preference with your kids whether they would prefer the gloves or the mitts.

[- Neck Warmer](https://www.dare2b.com/ski-wear/kids/ski-accessories/ski-neck-warmers-gaiters/) A neck warmer (or neck gaitor) helps to stop any wind chill from getting through and working its way down the ski jacket, fleece etc. Our neck warmers are made from a soft recycled microfleece fabric. They can be worn both on the slopes and the street, a perfect replacement for a traditional scarf.
    - Sunscreen and Lip Balm As cold as it might seem, the sun will still be beaming and the UVA/UVB count will be high, so it's important to protect any skin that will be on show. That includes a SPF lip balm to help avoid any chapped or blistered lips.

    Skiing Holidays with School

Of course, once you've packed all the ski specific items,  make sure you remember to pack every day clothing for them, that they will wear when they're not on the slopes. It's always worth checking the weather to see whether they will need waterproofs or not, and don't forget to speak to the school to see if there is anything specific the school want them to bring and what ski equipment you'll be able to rent from the ski resort itself.
